Kingshill Natural Mineral Water is bottled directly from source in the heather and forest clad hills of Central Scotland. Located at the site of an Artesian Well in Lanarkshire.
Kingshill has provided drinking water for local people and passing trade since the seventeenth century when it was a watering hole on the Glasgow to Edinburgh stagecoach route.
Natural Mineral Water has been bottled on site since 1987. More recently, purpose built premises have been erected to house modern, state of the art bottling equipment, and provide additional warehouse space.
Naturally enhanced goodness
Natural Mineral Water is one of the freshest and purest sources of water due to the natural filtration which takes place as the water passes through the strata. In the United Kingdom, Mineral Water is highly regulated through legislation (Natural Mineral Water, Spring Water and Bottle Drinking Water (Scotland) Regulations 2007) which defines minimum mineral and dissolved solids content and ensures that it originates from a geologically and physically protected water source. Mineral Water is characterised by constant levels and relative proportions of minerals and trace elements at the source. No minerals may be added to mineral water, which is the main difference between mineral and spring water.
Kingshill Natural Mineral Water benefits from high calcium content, as well as a low content of nitrate and sodium. The high calcium content provides strength to teeth and bones, especially beneficial to children and infants.
What is an Artesian Well?
An Artesian Well is a water source in which water flows under its own hydrostatic pressure from a confined aquifer (known as an artesian aquifer). These Artesian aquifers are created by water percolating down through a layer of permeable and porous rock which becomes sandwiched between layers of impermeable rock or clay. This creates a confined aquifer where the hydrostatic pressure increases with distance from the head of the aquifer, creating a means for the water to flow up to the well/spring when a bore hole is introduced, or where there occurs a natural fault in the rock.
In this age of intensive farming, Kingshill Natural Mineral Water remains extremely low in nitrates as it is in an area of woodland and has little farming activity.
The whole process from the water being introduced at the top of the aquifer and flowing through the permeable layer of rock to the artesian well may take hundreds, even thousands of years. In this journey, the water is naturally filtered and absorbs it’s mineral content.
